P. B. Lawrence Stakes (Group 2) – 1400m

Caulfield, 18th August.

Special Offer: $300 P.B. Lawrence Stakes FREE BET

1.   FIUMICINO

The 9yo and former AJC Derby winner lines up for yet another campaign but first up over this trip, there will be no where near enough zip in his old legs to worry this lot.

Odds: $151.00

2.   HEART OF DREAMS

The former Group 1 winners returns to racing after eleven months away from the scene. He does love Caulfield where his record reads 13 starts, 3 wins and 7 and maybe that might be reason for his opening quote of $7.00 but after such a lengthy spell and from the wide gate, not expecting too much from him early in his comeback campaign.

Odds: $6.00

3.   LUCKYGRAY

Visitor from WA who arrives with an imposing record of eight wins from his last nine starts. The last three since returning from a spell all at Group Three level. Drawn well in six but untried on conditions worse than dead.

Odds: $3.20

4.   REKINDLED INTEREST

A gelding with plenty of natural ability and has two Group Two’s to his name from his three career wins (AAMI Vase and Chin Nam Tam) and an unlucky third in last year’s Cox Plate.Has produced a couple of eye-catching efforts first up in the past and will be sure to rattling home here in the final furlong.

Odds: $5.50

5.   SEVILLE

Former European stayer from the Williams camp that has only been to the races twice in Australia thus far. Expect the plans for him lay further into the Spring and will be using this as a starting point and in preparation for the longer races to come.

Odds: $26.00

6.   READY TO RIP

Came to the Moody Stable from Queensland and has represented the stable twice, successfully on both occasions. Was very well supported (11/8F) when narrowly winning the Listed Vic Spring and then the Group 3 Bletchingly here at Caulfield by a half a length. Will get every chance from three, is fit and in form but has to take the step up to WFA.

Odds: $4.60

7.   MR. CHARD

Returned to racing from a 20 week spell and just held his ground in the run home to finish sixth, beaten 4.6 behind Ready to Rip in the G3 Bletchingly. That effort was to be expected give that, prior to the above start he had only had one race in the 12 months prior.

Odds: $51.00

8.   SECOND EFFORT

Led and capitulated late in the Listed Straight Six at Flemington two starts back and was immediately given a freshen up. Returned a little over a month ago and ran sixth in the Sir John Monash. This was the first time the Mossman gelding failed to secure victory on a Slow or Heavy track in seven starts. For him to win here today, fancy the track will have to be at least that again.

Odds: $17.00

9.   PRINCE OBAMA

Ran a close fourth to Ready to Rip two starts back in the Bletchingly and then despite racing third, was well accounted for (beaten 7 lenghts) by Club Command and Guru Bob when carry 54.5. Has to carry 59kg today – a win would surprise.

Odds: $26.00

10.   GUNS AT FIVE

A New Zealander stayer who is having his first start for the Moody camp. Has only had two starts in his career at this trip, both in Maiden Class and both unsuccessful. Leave him alone until much later in the Spring.

Odds: $61.00

11.   ZAMORAR

Has been a model of consistency this prep winning two and being placed in Listed and Group Three company at his last four starts. He’s backing up from a third last week in the Aurie Star but imagine he will have his work cut out for him at the WFA scale and from the wide draw.

Odds: $10.00

12.  MISTER MILTON

Last prep included a fourth in the Group Two Autumn Stakes and third (at 100/1) in the Australian Guineas behind Mosheen. Has had two runs back this prep for a ninth (beaten 3.7) in Sir John Monash and a slightly better effort in the Bletchingly (fifth 4.4). Hard to see him turning the tables on those who have finished in front of him at his recent starts here.

Odds: $51.00

13.  BARE KNUCKLE

Broke his Maiden Status at on the Geelong Synthetic track last start – his tenth attempt at doing so. Not in a million years!

Odds: $301.00

OVERVIEW

The say winning form is good form and winning form doesn’t come much better the Myluckgray’s. Provided he can handle a soft track, he’ll be somewhere in the finish but at $3.00 it may be worth holding out for an extra dollar or two. Rekindled Interest has WFA and first up form and at $5.50 may be the better value eachway. There’s a host of them for the placings including Ready To Rip ($4.60) and Second Effort in the multiples might had some value.
