The Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival heats right up on Saturday. Five blacktype races, all of which have significant importance as they are the stepping stone of an Autumn campaign for some of Australia’s most exciting gallopers.

The Light Fingers (1200m) has attracted a crack bunch of three-year-old fillies, with Karuta Queen and Streama heading up the class. The former will be looking to bounce back after having no luck last Saturday at Caulfield whilst the latter will be kicking off what could be an Autumn which culminates with a win in the Doncaster Mile.

The Royal Sovereign (1200m) sees a majority of these colts and geldings getting the miles in the legs for races at 2000m and beyond, but all eyes will be on Manawanui, the best three-year-old colt in Sydney at the moment. He’ll be the punters elect and judging on his last barrier trial, it’s hard to argue with that. He’ll have some stiff competition from boom youngster Moment Of Change, who has won two from two and trialled superbly not long ago.

The mares will do battle in the Breeders Classic (1200m) with iron mare Beaded the topweight. She is another who has trialled well and appears ready to win first up. But they will all have to try and match it with Montana Flyer, who has also trialled nicely leading up to Saturday.

And the Golden Slipper picture will be made that little bit more clearer when the colts and geldings contest the Canonbury Stakes (1100m) while the fillies will tough it out in the Widden Stakes (1100m).

Race One: Co-Wyn Building Group Handicap 2400m     Form Guide

Back Me: Sean Baile Mor was outstanding last start as he was last in a very slowly run race. She had no right to make up ground but she did. Form has held up with Mangaroa Flyer winning last Saturday.
Don’t Back Me: Tropicana Girl was ok at Rosehill, but her form in the wet doesn’t read well. If the track remains soft, put a line through her.
Big Danger: Mangaroa Flyer was ridden more forward and got some respect back from punters who have made him favourite in all five Australian runs with a gritty win. Step up in journey will suit and he looks a major force here.
Roughie: Planetarium is a one batter who doesn’t win, but should fill the placings with a gun run from barrier one.

Race Two: Tom Cassar Widden Stakes 1100m     Form Guide

Back Me: This should be a stroll in the park for Driefontein. Controversial winner of the Magic Millions, the little break will have helped her immensely. Clear top pick.
Don’t Back Me: Just not sure with Hussousa. Impressive winner of the Gimcrack and the form out of that race reads very well, but she has two speedy galloper drawn inside her and if Moreira does decide to push forward and suddenly look for cover, he might not find it because Jimmy Cassidy, rider of Extreme Impact which has drawn barrier four, rarely loses a fight and he’ll make sure the champion rider from Singapore is caught wide.
Big Danger: Agueda looked good when winning in the slop at Gosford last time out. Given time to recover from that and she is drawn to get a soft trip.
Roughie: Incrimination is a well bred youngster for Darley who can run a cheeky race on debut in a small field.

Race Three: Sharp Canonbury Stakes 1100m     Form Guide

Back Me: I’m going to tip Raceway, but with not 100% confidence because there are some beautifully bred youngsters who have trialled sensationally. He has the experience and should win if he is right, but he’ll be silly odds.
Don’t Back Me: Rise To The Top was terrible at Canterbury and I cannot see him improving enough.
Big Danger: Narcissus is still nominated for the Blue Diamond so he must be rated highly from the camp. Slick trial last month and he’ll get the soft trip from the ideal gate.
Roughie: Nediym’s Quest was particularly impressive in a Warwick Farm barrier trial and he appears to be the blowout horse.

Race Four: Comfort Inn Hunts Liverpool Handicap 1600m     Form Guide

Back Me: If the track improves, then Kinnersley is on top. Didn’t look happy last week in the mud behind Said Com. He is on the seven day back up, which is a positive lead from the Waterhouse camp. He’ll roll forward and take a stack of beating.
Don’t Back Me: Skateboard ran ok last week, but he has been up for a long time and the spelling paddock surely isn’t far away.
Big Danger: Thumbtacks does his best racing at Warwick Farm, but he surprisingly ran a cracking on his home track at Rosehill a month back. Freshened, trialled ok behind Manawanui and expect him to charge late.
Roughie: Throw Sandberg in to your exotics. He is in a thin race here and if the pace is on, he can hit the line hard with luck.

Race Five: NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic 1200m     Form Guide

Back Me: Very keen on Beaded. Class horse in the event, lastest trial was super, drawn well, and given her unbelievable record, she appears to be beautifully weighted.
Don’t Back Me: Red Tracer is a quality mare who flies when fresh, but the wide barrier makes it very hard for her to win given the depth in this race.
Big Danger: Ladys Angel is a bomb-proof type that always runs an honest race. She’s fresh, but the perfect barrier will allow her every chance to win.
Roughie: Montana Flyer doesn’t win out of turn, but she’ll definitely lead and look the winner at some stage of the race. Last 100m will be the issue.

Race Six: Royal Sovereign Stakes 1200m     Form Guide

Back Me: $2.60 for Manawanui? He only needs to be half right to beat these surely…Class and that alone just about gets him home here.
Don’t Back Me: Moment Of Change spanked his rivals in two career runs to date. Sent north to tackle the better class races, but remember, the Moody satelite stable has been going terribly. That’s the worry with me.
Big Danger: Very keen to see how Salade goes. Oozed class in winning the Pago Pago before not backing up well enough in the Golden Slipper behind Sepoy. Changed stables, trialled well, big watch.
Roughie: Rekindled Alliance has plenty of talent and although suited over slightly further, he can run a forward race here first up.

Race Seven: Patinack Light Fingers Stakes 1200m     Form Guide

Back Me: Forgive and forget Karuta Queen last week. Got spooked from Here De Angels, she missed the kick and had no luck in the straight. She’ll be sent to the lead and prove too nippy for this lot.
Don’t Back Me: Hallowell Belle is now with Gai Waterhouse and expect her to be wound up for a win here, but she just lacks the x-factor that the top two in betting have.
Big Danger: I’m tipping Streama to win the Doncaster Mile. She is a very exciting filly. Goes well fresh and she’ll be attacking the line with the right run.
Roughie: Emmalene had no luck at all first up. Big step in class but she has talent given she won a nice race on Oaks Day at Flemington. Knockout filly here with luck from the horror barrier.

Race Eight: Fernwood Liverpool Handicap 1300m     Form Guide

Back Me: Got it between Stratford and Hood with a leaning towards the latter because of the better gate and his record fresh and on softer tracks.
Don’t Back Me: Key West is a hard horse to follow. Very disappointing last start and he’d want to improve to be in the finish.
Big Danger: Stratford was enormous in winning on the Gold Coast. Had a nice trial to tune up for this and he’ll be in the money for sure.
Roughie: Bereft pulled his head off at Canterbury and was entitled to tire. If he brings his manners, he can certainly win.
