Tiger Tees is virtually assured of a Stradbroke Handicap start after being penalised half a kilogram for his win in Saturday’s BRC Sprint at Doomben.
The Joe Pride-trained gelding will now carry 53.5kg in Queensland’s premier sprint on June 9 and has moved to 17th in the latest order of entry for the 18-horse field.
Tiger Tees built his already imposing record to eight wins from 11 starts with his Group Three success but bookmakers are more wary of three-year-olds Pampelonne and Mental, winners at Scone and Doomben on Saturday respectively.
Mental was promoted to $7 Stradbroke favouritism following his Group Three win over 1350 metres while Pampelonne was lifted to $9 with TAB Sportsbet even though neither is guaranteed a start in the Stradbroke (1400m).
Splitting the pair in the Stradbroke market is BTC Sprint winner Sea Siren ($8) who is exempt from a ballot but can be rehandicapped if she happens to win Saturday’s Doomben 10,000.
Trainer Tim Martin is favouring Saturday’s Doomben 10,000 for Scone Guineas winner Pampelonne as long as he comes through the road trip as well as he hopes.
He was among 22 entries for the 10,000 including last year’s winner, Beaded, a Darley stablemate of Mental.
Trainer Peter Snowden said the Queensland Guineas (1400m) a week before the Stradbroke, would determine whether Mental advanced to the Stradbroke.
Tiger Tees is a $14 chance in the Stradbroke.
The winner of the Doomben 10,000 is exempt from a ballot on the Stradbroke.
