Hugh Bowman has inched closer to snaring a century of metropolitan winners this season with a treble at Gosford on Wednesday.

Victories aboard Darley youngster Treaty and the Chris Waller-trained pair of Mohtashem and She’s Clean at the Australian Turf Club meeting took his Sydney tally to 89-1/2 wins.

There are eight city meetings remaining this season for Bowman to reach the milestone.

Waller snapped Bowman up for rides in five of the seven races at Gosford and predicted Bowman would one day be regarded as among the all-time best jockeys.

“He’s going good Hugh,” Waller said.

“He is obviously a good asset to have on your side.

“He will be one of the best when he retires.”

Bowman already looks to have the Sydney jockeys’ premiership sewn up with defending champion Nash Rawiller his nearest rival on 70 wins.

It will be the second time Bowman has taken honours as Sydney’s top rider after claiming his first premiership in 2008-09 when he fell two short of the ton with 98 wins.

Bowman also leads the point score for the Bart Cummings Medal which acknowledges consistently outstanding performance by jockeys and trainers throughout the season.

He has 59 points, six more than Waller and 10 more than the third-placed Gai Waterhouse with voting now going behind closed doors for the remainder of the season.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on August 16.
