Consistent mare Miss Bindi helped ease a frustrating day for the Colin and Cindy Alderson stable when she overcame a chequered run to win at Caulfield.

Ridden by Mark Zahra, the five-year-old mare was second-up in Saturday’s Gail Jackson Handicap (1200m) but was in trouble for most of the race before scoring a three-quarter length win from There’s Only One and Avionics.

Earlier Miss Bindi’s training companion You Tell Me snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the Barbara Booth Handicap (1200m) when beaten a short half head by Classy Chloe.

After clearly heading the South Australian filly, You Tell Me, ridden by Peter Mertens, lost interest in the last 50 metres which cost him victory.

“I was getting bit frustrated earlier,” Cindy Alderson said.

“He (You Tell Me) has a little bit of a habit of doing that (pulling up).”

The stable also had to be content with Her Diamond Rock’s fifth in the Alannah and Madeline Foundation Handicap (1600m) and De Palio’s fourth in the Manfred Philipps Handicap (1100m).

Around the home turn Zahra took the inside running on Miss Bindi and then squeezed through a gap halfway up the straight to score what Alderson said was probably her best of six wins in 24 starts.

“She was very brave today,” Alderson said.

“She got into a bumping duel with The Long Road and had to change course a few times but was still very strong late.”
